Municipal Council Jargon is a class one council. According to 2011 census the population of the city was 65174.The whole city is divided into 19 wards by electing 19 representative. This council was established in year 2008. If we look at the history of this city than it is 250 years old. This established by Rai kalan. At this time this city is a Sub-Divisionional headquarter of Ludhiana district. This council situated at a distance of 38 Kms from Ludhiana city and 30 Kms from Moga. This city is situated on Ludhiana, Ferozepur railway line.
Function & Achievements
Basic amenities like water supply, sewerage cleaning, street lights, making &maintaining roads by lanes etc. are provided by the Municipal council to the residents of the city. At this point of time, the city has 23 kms roads, seven tube wells for pumping water, two over head water reservoirs, one community hall and two parks. All lanes and by lanes in residential cases are mettaled. Municipal council yearly budget for 2012-2013 is Rs.9.95 crores.
For people living below the poverty line, the SJSRY scheme, which is divided by the Govt. of India, is being implemented in the city. The feature of the scheme are given below:-

Jagraon is a historic city of Lala Lajpat Rai, who fought for the independence of our country was a resident of this city. The house where he stayed and made plans for the independence struggle has been maintained as a museum by the Govt. of Punjab. This city now has a Library and a college in the memory of Lala Lajpat Rai and a statue of Lala ji has been installed in the park opposite Municipal Council building.
